PACQUIAO VS BARRIOS SHOWDOWN HAS AMERICAN UNSURE WHY HE WAS PICKED FOR COMEBACK FIGHT

The Pacquiao-Barrios fight had the 30-year-old American unsure as to why he, among all boxers, was he picked for the Filipino legend’s comeback fight.

Furthermore, the 30-year-old San Antonio native initially felt excited as he gets to defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight belt against Pacquiao.

Moreover, Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs) still respects his upcoming opponent.

However, he admits being confused if he was chosen due to his merit or just as part of a plan.

“When the fight was first brought to me I wasn’t sure whether to take it as respect or disrespect, because he wanted me,” Barrios said.

“But regardless, I’m the champion for a reason and I’m gonna show why I’m holding the WBC belt,” he added.

‘EL AZTECA’ ASSURES RESPECT ON ‘PAC-MAN’ NON-EXISTENT WHEN THEY’RE IN THE RING

Barrios, who is also known by his moniker “El Azteca” assured his respect on “Pac-Man’ will be non-existent when they face off in the ring.

Moreover, the July 19 fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is another opportunity for the Mexican-American to retain the title.

Furthermore, Barrios claimed the title from Pacquiao tormentor Yordenis Ugas, whom he decked twice in September 2023.

He is aware of Pacquiao’s recent open workout.

However, he and his team are confident of mapping out an effective game plan come fight night.

“During training camp I haven’t really been working with the mentality that I’m facing a legend,” Barrios said.

“At the end of the day, he’s another man who’s trying to fight for my title,” he added.

Furthermore, Barrios has no complaints on his training at the Pound 4 Pound Gym in Las Vegas.

Moreover, he cited Selina’s presence in the camp is a big deal for him.

The champ said they started his boxing journey since he was six.

“We started this boxing journey together when I was six and she was eight,” Barrios said.

“We’ve always been in each other’s corner since the very beginning. Nobody knows me better in and out of the ring than her,” he added.
