ALVAREZ STILL NOT INTERESTED IN CRAWFORD DESPITE LATTER’S LATEST WIN
Furthermore, Alvarez is still not interested in a Crawford fight despite the latter’s latest win.
Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) is scheduled to fight Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) in Las Vegas on September 14.
The Mexican’s three super middleweight titles (WBA, WBC, and WBO) are at stake.
That fight, however, clashes with the UFC 306 event at the Sphere in Las Vegas also on that same date promoted by Alalshikh.
Moreover, Alvarez advised Crawford’s camp for their fighter to face American Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) first.
“Crawford needs to fight Teofimo first, and then we’ll see. I’m not asking for that fight (Alvarez vs Crawford),” Alvarez told Fight Hub TV.
“They (Crawford camp) want to make that fight because it’s a payday obviously. I don’t want that fight. Teofimo deserves it more than me,” he added.
CRAWFORD TO STAY AT JR MIDDLEWEIGHT AFTER BEATING MADRIMOV
Meanwhile, Crawford is willing to stay at junior middleweight after he made his debut by beating Israil Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs) in Los Angeles on Saturday.
The 36-year-old Omaha, Nebraska, native zoomed to No.1 in the 154-lb division based on the latest world divisional rankings.
However, Crawford is open to moving up in weight again if the Alvarez fight pushes through after the Mexican’s Berlanga fight.
“If the money’s right, we got a fight,” Crawford acknowledged.
“But at the same time, he’s got a fight that he’s focused on (Berlanga),” he added.
Meanwhile, WBC and WBO unified light middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) follows Crawford at second in the rankings.
Madrimov dropped to No.3.
CANELO TELLS ALALSHIKH CAMP TO WORK ‘IN MY WAY, NOT THEIR WAY’
Furthermore, Alvarez told Alalshikh and his people to work “in my way, not their way.”
Alalshikh’s camp continued to push Alvarez for the Crawford fight until the former threatened not to pursue the payday bout anymore.
“If he (Alalshikh) wants to work with me, it’s in my way, not their way. I don’t need it (Crawford fight),” the Mexican fighter said.
“It’s not the way you approach me. I respect everybody and I respect Turki. If he wants to work with me, it needs to be my way,” he added.
Moreover, Alalshikh has been an advocate for promoting a potential Alvarez-Crawford match for a long time.
With Canelo busy for the Berlanga fight, Alalshikh and Crawford will have to wait.
