ALVAREZ MUM ON IBF BELT FUTURE AMID SCULL FIGHT PURSE BID

Alvarez (61-2, 39 KOs) remained mum on the future of his IBF title belt amid the Scull (22-0, 9 KOs) purse bid scheduled for Thursday.

Furthermore, the Mexican undisputed world super middleweight champion clarified that he has not yet yielded his IBF title.

“I messaged with Canelo and he said has hasn’t vacated or decided his plans yet, despite reports to the contrary that didn’t quote him,” ESPN’s Dan Rafael wrote on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

“His (Alvarez) comment to me: ‘No decision yet.’ He’s been vacationing in Italy,” he added.

Additionally, reports said Alvarez would yield the IBF title to avoid a fight against Scull.

SCULL SAYS HE’S ‘NOT FAMOUS’ FOR CANELO

Scull admitted that he is “not famous” enough to earn a title shot against Canelo.

Furthermore, the Cuban boxer has been listed by the IBF as the world No.1 mandatory challenger for Alvarez’s title belt.

Scull felt he could only earn a title fight against Alvarez if he became a world champion.

“Maybe this was not the moment and Canelo said ‘let’s leave the Cuban now that he is not very well known,” the Cuban said.

“Let’s see if he becomes world champion, if he becomes world champion let’s unify,” he added.

CRAWFORD-ALVAREZ FACEOFF STILL BEST OPTION FOR CANELO

Alvarez may be convinced that facing Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) as an undisputed champion remains the Mexican’s best option.

Crawford wants to earn a shot at becoming a three-time four-belt champion if he faces Alvarez, who still has the IBF belt.

Canelo can also go for World Boxing Association mandatory challenger Edgar Berlanga.

Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) is also looking to fight Alvarez should the Mexican climb into the ring in September.

Another option for the Mexican champion is for him to take on David Benavidez in Saudi Arabia.
